EVENT HORIZON is an experimental audio\/visual work by i8u (audio) and C\u00e9drick Eymenier (visual) developed in the summer of 2009.The title of the piece was drawn from the physics term “event horizon” which is a bizarre boundary in space time which gives a black hole it\u2019s name.\u00a0 It is the proximity point in which no matter or radiation (ex.light) can escape and thereby affect an outside observer.\u00a0 It is the black holes effects on its surroundings and the light that doesn\u2019t pass the event horizon that gives physicists their awareness that the black hole exists.<\/p>\n

This project involves the observation of a cityscape after nightfall. The minimal light observed over the city at night masks the flurry of activity that is obscured by buildings and darkness.<\/p>\n

EVENT HORIZON explores the solitary observations of events transmitted via minimal stimuli and the understanding of the existence of incomprehensibly massive amounts of activity that cannot affect the outside observer other than the knowledge that it exists and it is obscured.<\/p>\n

In short, it explores the interaction of the subject with the city and the emotions that come with various sensory stimuli and the contemplation of
\nwhat the darkness obscures.<\/p>\n

PLATFORM est \u00e0 ce jour une s\u00e9rie de 12 films tourn\u00e9s dans des quartiers bien pr\u00e9cis de quelques m\u00e9tropoles choisies pour leur modernit\u00e9 et complexit\u00e9 architecturale. Toutefois l\u2019architecture n\u2019est pas film\u00e9e pour elle-m\u00eame, elle tient le r\u00f4le de contexte. Ces lieux sont aussi des carrefours
\ndes diff\u00e9rentes voies de communications, les flux sont donc fr\u00e9quents et vari\u00e9s. Une multitude de micro-\u00e9venements sont enregistr\u00e9s dans un seul plan fixe. La simultan\u00e9it\u00e9 de ces \u00e9v\u00e8nements tr\u00e8s banals (une voiture passe, puis un train et un passant…) est aussi ce qui en fait la richesse sonore et visuelle.
\nLes choix de montage des plans et de mixage de la bande-son viennent d\u00e9fier l\u2019objectivit\u00e9 documentaire des plan fixes qui constituent le film. L\u2019utilisation des techniques de montage du cin\u00e9ma de fiction permettent de tisser des relations infra-minces entre les plans. L\u2019attention est ainsi focalis\u00e9e sur une succession de d\u00e9tails qui en deviennent primordiaux.<\/p>\n

Chaque BANDE-SON est compos\u00e9e expr\u00e8s par un musicien de la sc\u00e8ne exp\u00e9rimentale internationale: Akira Rabelais (us), Taylor Deupree (us), Stephan Mathieu (all), Sebastien Roux (fr), Sogar (all), Fennesz (aut), Giuseppe Ielasi (it), Oren Ambarchi (aus), Pirand\u00e8lo (it), Taylor Deupree (us), Cats Hats Gowns (fr) et Vladislav Delay (fin). Chaque musicien utilise la bande-son enregistr\u00e9e lors du tournage pour la re-traiter et\u00a0 y ajoute sa propre musique. Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 permet de conserver un ancrage dans le r\u00e9el tout en proposant une re-interpr\u00e9tation musicale du paysage sonore.<\/p>\n

Il se cr\u00e9e, de plan en plan, une g\u00e9om\u00e9trie \u00e9trange, qui n’est plus celle de la ville seulement, ni celle
\ndu cr\u00e9pitement r\u00e9tinien de l’aff\u00fbt, mais un circuit d’abstractions instantan\u00e9es, quelque chose d’explosif
\net de calme \u00e0 la fois, qui refait le chemin du m\u00e9tal des buildings, des voitures et des trains, et l’emporte
\nvers le chaos serein du devenir-instantan\u00e9 des choses. C’est \u00e0 la fois chaud et froid, lent et rapide,
