Currently, sound artists must\r\n\u201cperform\u201d what are essentially multi-track recordings, interpreting the\r\nplayback of their compositions to account for technical and acoustic\r\nvariations in different sites. ((audience)) bypasses this problem by\r\nconsidering the cinema-hall as a standard technical and acoustic platform\r\nand site.\r\n\r\nThe centerpiece of ((audience)) is a 2 \u00bd hour \u201cfilm\u201d of 5.1 surround sound\r\nworks by seven international artists intended for presentation in movie\r\ntheaters as \u201ccinema in the dark.\u201d This program will travel to partnering\r\norganizations from Delhi, India to Providence, RI to Montreal, Canada \u2014\r\naccompanied by curatorial lectures, performances and screenings on a\r\ncity-by-city basis \u2014 through 2010.\r\n\r\nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS\r\nThe inaugural two-week ((audience)) festival features six nights of\r\nprograms, each exploring a different perspective on the cinema as concert\r\nhall:\r\n\r\nThursday, September 17 \/ 5-8pm\r\nSOLO EXHIBITION, OPENING RECEPTION: mudboy, Last Wishes\r\nA kinetic, in-the-dark installation consisting of several light\r\n\u2018paintings\u2019 opens in the Joan Lukas Rothenberg Gallery at Red House. The\r\nkinetic paintings use handmade optical projectors, LED lights and open\r\nsource 8-bit controller technology to produce a constant moving image.\r\n\r\nFriday, September 18 \/ 7pm\r\nLIVE PERFORMANCES: Loud Objects and MV Carbon \/ Zach Layton\r\nThis evening of experimental music at the Red House features the Loud\r\nObjects, performing live 1-bit circuit bending on an overhead projector,\r\nand\r\nMV Carbon and Zach Layton, performing on sitar, cello, electronics and\r\nfeedback.\r\n\r\nSaturday, September 19 \/ 7pm\r\nSCREENING: ((audience)) Premiere\r\nThe centerpiece of ((audience)) is a 2 1\/2 hour program of sound artworks\r\nby eight international artists. Presented  \u201cin the dark\u201d with full 5.1\r\nsurround sound, the evening will be an immersive experience in cinematic\r\naudio. The ((audience)) Main Program contains works by: Jamie Allen; Bryan\r\nJacobs; Loud Objects; Simona Brinkmann; Natasha Barrett; Emmanuel Madan\r\nand Anna Friz; Cedric Maridet and a Syracuse exclusive by Uli Schuster.\r\n\r\nThursday, September 24 \/ 7pm\r\nTAPE-MUSIC CONCERT: Music on All Sides\r\nThis \u201cin the dark\u201d evening explores the use of 5.1 surround sound in the\r\ncomposition of experimental and new music. Featuring the work of John\r\nHudak; R. Luke Dubois; and Brett Balogh and Stephen Hastings-King.\r\n\r\nFriday, September 25\r\n7pm \/ SCREENING: Cinema for the Eyes and Ears\r\nThis \u201cpsychedelic video mix\u201d is composed of fractals, stochastic\r\nstructures, autumn leaves, sprouting seeds, nebulae and one pumping stereo\r\nsoundtrack. Featuring work by Sean Niessen; Dave Fischer; Sam Pellmann and\r\nMiranda Raimondi; and Michael Northam.\r\n\r\n9pm \/ SCREENING: Psicklops\r\nA rare screening of mudboy\u2019s \u201cdark cinema psycho drama.\u201d\r\nSunday, September 27 \/ 2pm\r\nKARAOKE BRUNCH \/ CLOSING PARTY\r\nJoin the curators of ((audience)) and Red House staff for a very special\r\nevent combining live karaoke, coffee and waffles from Funk N\u2019 Waffles.
